Solutions Based Research

Research leads us to develop real world solutions.

We need knowledge before we can act, thus Rozalia Project has implemented several scientific research projects to develop data from which we can produce solutions.

Aboard our oceanographic research vessel and beyond, we conduct real world experiments.

Are we contaminating our samples? A preliminary study to investigate procedural contamination during field sampling and processing for microplastic and anthropogenic microparticles (2021)

This study looks at anthropogenic contamination when collecting samples of microfibers in the environment. We compare the number of microfibers in samples using anti-contamination protocols and with the absence of these protocols.

Electric clothes dryers: An underestimated source of microfiber pollution (2020)

This study takes a look microfiber emissions from dryer machines. We measured the distribution of fibers landing on the snow’s surface outside dryer vents and the weight of lint in dryer exhaust exiting dryer vents. This study establishes that electric clothes dryers emit masses of microfiber directly into the environment. Emissions vary based on dryer type, age, vent installation and lint trap characteristics. Microfiber emissions vary based on dryer type, age, vent installation and lint trap characteristics

Mountains to the sea: River study of plastic and non-plastic microfiber pollution in the northeast USA (2017)

This study looks at anthropogenic contamination when collecting samples of microfibers in the environment. We compare the number of microfibers in samples using anti-contamination protocols and with the absence of these protocols.

Lake Champlain Shoreline Sediment Debris Study (2014)

Lake Champlain, located in Vermont, has 7 billion pieces of marine debris along its shorelines weighing 5.1 tons! Our goal with this study was to determine the type, distribution and concentration of marine debris in the littoral sediment of Lake Champlain. Considering Lake Champlain is an avenue to the ocean via Canada, this not only a problem for the lake’s ecosystem.
